BIKUBENFONDEN

Gunilla creates visual works with elegant ambience by offering the spectator colour harmonies and surprising shapes. The sharp content is seamlessly weaved inside the concepts. Her work is minimalistic and at the same time rich. The impressions are long lasting and thought-provoking making her a relevant choreographer representing her generation.”

ENGLISH

The Bikuben Foundation has appointed choreographer Gunilla Lind to the foundation’s effort, ARTISTIC PRACTICE that aims to strengthen Danish artists' opportunity for an international breakthrough.

We are thrilled to announce that the BIKUBEN FOUNDATION’s Artistic Practise film portrait of Gunilla Lind is out now.

The Bikuben Foundation has spotlighted Gunilla Lind as a talented choreographer and creator who, “with a hyperactive understanding of the vanity of our time, strikes her audience with wild humour and a lavishly scenic sci-fi universe that puts our need for recognition at the tip.”

The Bikuben Foundation desires to strengthen the opportunities for talented Danish artistic practices to get to be participating in the international art scene. Therefore, in collaboration with the artist, the foundation publishes a film portrait, where we get an insight and an introduction into the artistic methods and underlying thoughts that characterize the artist's work.

As part of the effort, Artistic Practice Gunilla Lind had the opportunity to choose an international profile as a conversation partner in an interview. Here, recognized leader of Skåne's Dance Theatre, Mira Helenius Martinsson was chosen. Mira has a large Scandinavian and international network and a professional and deep understanding into the field of dance.

Mira Helenius Martinsson on her meeting with Gunilla Lind:
“Gunilla creates visual works with elegant ambience by offering the spectator colour, harmonies and surprising shapes. The sharp content is seamlessly weaved inside the concepts. Her work is minimalistic and at the same time rich. The impressions are long lasting and thought-provoking making her a relevant choreographer representing her generation”

Head of Arts at the Bikuben Foundation, Mette Marcus highlights the Bikuben Foundation's motivation for choosing Gunilla Lind:
“The Bikuben Foundation has chosen to emphasize Gunilla Lind's practice, because we think she works with a unique blend of modern dance, physical theatre, fashion, light art and architecture in a whole new way. As a digital native, she sharpened with her natural authority our attention to the truth-value of the digitized; what does it do to us when we interact with image-manipulated bodies and virtual identities made up of zeros and ones. With her style of work, she challenges the way we both perceive ourselves and others. In her scenic works, she insists on bringing body, costume and movement together in both courageous and disturbing sensory spaces that hold great artistic potential - even beyond the borders of the country.”

 Gunilla Lind about her art:
“I think it is important that in such a screen-packed world we meet the performing arts, where we as spectators sense shapes, dimensions and textures. Meeting bodies that are not only flat images as on a screen and experiencing the living and moving body shapes in interaction with scenographic elements and malleable costumes is really important. The gender debate is also a big part of my universe. I find that social media creates a space for exposing gender stereotyped glamour images of how we should look and behave - through my works I want to question the structures of society and the way we portray and perform gender."

ARTISTIC PRACTICE – Gunilla Lind is produced by Meeto Film for the Bikuben Foundation.

A BIG and heartfelt THANK YOU to the whole Bikuben foundation team engaged in the Artistic Practise effort with Gunilla Lind.
